Eric Holder Sentenced To 60 Years To Life For The Murder of Nipsey Hussle
The man convicted in the shooting death of rapper Nipsey Hussle was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison during a court hearing on Wednesday.
Last July, Eric R. Holder, Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing rapper Nipsey Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, outside of his Los Angeles clothing store The Marathon in March 2019. After three long years of anticipation, the verdict is finally in!
Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II sentenced Eric Holder, 33, to 25 years to life in prison for murder, an additional 25 years for a firearm sentencing enhancement, and ten years for assault with a firearm. He added several other sentences and ordered that others run concurrently. Holder was also found guilty of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm for firing at two other men at the scene who survived.
As the verdict was announced Holder sat emotionless and only spoke when the judge asked if he understood his sentence. Lauren London, Hussle’s partner and the mother of his two young children, did not attend the trial nor did any of his other relatives. None of the victims provided victim impact statements, which is to be expected in cases of this nature.
“We hope that there is some resounding peace in the fact that his killer will be in prison likely for the rest of his life,” the lead prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney John McKinney, said after the verdict.
Nipsey Hussle was a positive example and leader in Los Angeles, but his influence extended throughout the country. In his 33 years, the well-known and respected “Neighborhood Nip” laid the groundwork for community involvement, generational wealth, and economic development. More importantly, Nip inspired you to own the power of your success.
His love, desire, and dedication to moving the needle forward for the culture were one of his most celebrated characteristics. In 2019, the Grammy-award-winning hip-hop artist opened The Marathon Clothing store to give back to his community. He had also contacted the Los Angeles Police Department before his death to discuss ways to help prevent gang violence in the neighborhood.
In 2020, the rapper received two posthumous Grammy Awards for best rap performance and best rap/song collaboration. In addition, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Hussle leaves behind two children. His death has sparked an outpouring of love from fans across the country who have paid tribute to the rapper on social media.
The judge’s decision to sentence the man convicted of killing Nipsey Hussle to 60 years to life in prison is a heartbreaking reminder of the tragic loss of a much-loved and admired artist. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans as they continue to grieve this devastating loss. We hope this sentence will bring some measure of justice and peace to those who have been impacted by this tragedy.
