“Seeing Lil Bow Wow back then made me want to do music professionally,” P.Y.T shares. “It’s one of those things that you feel deep down, but at that time, I didn’t express it. I knew right then that I wanted to pursue music.”

In addition to Bow Wow, Michael Jackson’s influence went beyond performance. He instilled in her the desire to understand the music business and not just focus on being an artist. The King of Pop’s work ethic and approach to showmanship inspired P.Y.T to balance her artistic side with a deep understanding of the business aspect of music.

“Michael Jackson influenced me not only to perform but to learn the business side of music,” she says. “I didn’t want to just be an artist making music. I wanted to understand how the music business worked.”

The final piece of P.Y.T’s artistic influence came from Tupac Shakur. The late rapper’s unapologetic approach to lyricism and his ability to speak truth through his music inspired her to express herself without fear.

“Tupac inspired me to express myself without holding back,” P.Y.T says. “He was always real in his lyrics and never afraid to speak the truth. That’s something I admire, and it influences how I write.”

The Inspiration Behind “24”

P.Y.T’s latest project, 24, is a reflection of her philosophy on time and success. She believes that we all have the same 24 hours in a day, and it’s up to each individual to use that time wisely. Written in 2022, the song and project were inspired by the idea that we control our own destinies based on how we use our time.

“I wrote the song in 2022, but when 2024 approached, it felt right to attach the project to the year,” she explains. “We all have the same 24 hours, but it’s what we do with them that counts. The project is a reflection of how I used my 24 hours to get to where I am.”

With a message of being a go-getter, never settling, and grinding for success, P.Y.T’s 24 serves as a motivational anthem for listeners. Through the project, she hopes to inspire others to take full advantage of the time they have and work toward achieving their dreams.

Building Skills and Making Connections

P.Y.T’s journey has also been shaped by her experiences on stage and in the studio. Opening for major artists has taught her the importance of preparation and dedication to her craft. She makes it a point to always rehearse, to be the best performer she can be, and to entertain with energy and enthusiasm.

Performing alongside some of the biggest names in music has also reinforced her belief in her own abilities. “Performing on the same stage as major artists has pushed me to always give it my all. It tells me I must be doing something right,” she says.

Her journey into music production and audio engineering also started at a young age. At 17, she began experimenting with music production, eventually teaching herself how to use software like Logic, Fruity Loops, and Pro Tools. These skills gave her total artistic control over her music and allowed her to express herself fully.

Facing Challenges and Paving the Way for Female Rappers

As a female rapper, P.Y.T has faced her share of challenges in an industry that often tries to pigeonhole women into a specific mold. She’s refused to fit into the stereotypical image that some expect, believing that there’s room for a diverse range of female voices in hip hop. She’s also had to navigate unwanted advances and the pressures of a male-dominated industry.

“I’ve had to deal with people trying to fit me into the mold of what they think a female rapper should be. There’s room on the scene for diverse voices, but not everyone sees that,” she explains. “There are people who will try to intimidate you or offer help in exchange for something else, but I stay clear from them. As a female artist, you have to stand your ground and not fall into the traps they set.”

For aspiring female rappers, P.Y.T advises staying true to oneself and having a clear goal. “Stay true to you and what you want to do musically. Have a clear vision, and don’t let anyone steer you off course.”

P.Y.T has big plans for the future. In addition to more sync licensing deals and placements in television and film, she is also working on multiple projects to release throughout 2024. There’s also a focus on visuals, ensuring that her fans experience her music in a full and immersive way.
