Deidra Price founded Jayce’s Journey in 2022 in honor of her son, who was diagnosed with autism at two years old. The organization seeks to empower individuals with autism by providing opportunities for growth, collaboration, and community. Through the power of teamwork and collaboration, Jayce’s Journey aims to foster a community where education and resources are shared to nurture the unique talents and gifts of people with autism.
The foundation envisions a world where people with autism are given equitable opportunities to discover their abilities and overcome any barriers they may face. Deidra’s commitment to positive change is demonstrated by her efforts to create a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals with autism can thrive and achieve their full potential.
Autism is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and there is currently no known cure for the condition. However, early diagnosis and intervention can greatly improve outcomes for individuals with autism.
The signs and symptoms of autism can vary widely depending on the individual and their level of functioning. Some common signs and symptoms of autism include:
- Social difficulties: Difficulty with social interaction, such as difficulty making eye contact, not responding to their name being called and difficulty understanding social cues.
- Communication difficulties: Delayed or absent language development, difficulty with expressive and receptive language, and repetitive or unusual use of language.
- Repetitive behaviors: Repeating certain movements or routines, such as flapping hands or rocking back and forth, and displaying fixations or intense interests in specific topics.
- Sensory sensitivities: Over- or under-sensitivity to sensory input, such as being overly sensitive to loud noises or textures, or under-sensitive to pain.
- Difficulty with changes in routine: Difficulty with changes in routine or unexpected changes to their environment, which can cause anxiety or distress.
It is important to note that autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning that individuals with autism can have a wide range of symptoms and levels of functioning. If you suspect that you or someone you know may have autism, seek an evaluation from a qualified healthcare professional.
