Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do?

My name is Audrey Sebastiao. I am a jurist, an educator, a humanitarian, and the founder of Educate with Diversity, a platform that provides resources and tools for educators focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Additionally, I am the president of the Felifeli Foundation, an association dedicated to helping people worldwide. Among our most impactful initiatives are the creation of a school in Africa and the “New Shoes, New Hope” campaign, through which we provided over 3,000 shoes to those in need. My work is driven by a passion for creating inclusive and supportive environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What inspired you to pursue your career or business?

My mother has been my greatest inspiration. From a young age, she has always been committed to helping her family and others. At just 18, she began working to support her siblings’ education and continues to assist people to this day. Her selflessness and dedication instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and compassion. Additionally, my husband has played a significant role as my mentor, constantly encouraging me to strive for my best and remain focused on my purpose. His unwavering support and belief in my abilities have motivated me to pursue my goals with determination and resilience. Together, they have shaped my journey and inspired me to make a difference in the lives of others.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career/business and how did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is overcoming my own fears—fear of being judged, fear of not performing well, and fear of failure. These fears can be paralyzing and often hold us back from reaching our full potential. However, with the support of my friends, family, and faith in God, I have managed to conquer these fears. This support system has made me more prepared and resilient to face whatever life brings my way. I learned to embrace vulnerability and view challenges as opportunities for growth.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career/business journey so far?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that it’s okay to fail. The important thing is to stand up and never give up. Mistakes are valuable learning opportunities, both from our own experiences and from observing others. It’s crucial to remain resilient and maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of setbacks. This mindset has been instrumental in my personal and professional development, and it continues to guide me as I navigate new challenges and opportunities.

How do you define success?

I define success as a journey rather than a destination. It’s crucial to recognize and celebrate every small success you achieve daily. True success encompasses various aspects of life, including love, family, friendships, professional achievements, mental well-being, spirituality, and physical health. It’s about finding balance and fulfillment in all areas of life.

What is your biggest dream, and how are you working towards achieving it?

My biggest dream is to ensure that every child, no matter where they are in the world, has access to education. Education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and communities. I am dedicated to amplifying my voice so that every child can exercise theirs as well. Becoming more influential will enable me to help more people and make a more significant impact. To achieve this dream, I work tirelessly to advocate for educational equity and create opportunities for underserved communities.

How has your faith or spirituality played a role in your career/business?

My faith helps me stay focused and not get distracted by trivial matters. It provides me with a sense of purpose and direction. Through my faith, I find strength and resilience to overcome challenges and stay committed to my goals.

How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?

Maintaining organization is key. It’s important to remember that it’s okay if I don’t complete every task. My family, mental health, and overall well-being come first. When I am well, I can perform at my best, ensuring that the job gets done effectively. I prioritize self-care and make time for activities that bring me joy and relaxation.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

Passion is essential. You must believe in what you do. Continuously educate yourself, stay updated, and remain humble. Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. Decenter yourself, and you’ll find success. It’s important to be open to learning and growth, constantly seeking new knowledge and skills. Surround yourself with mentors and like-minded individuals who can support and guide you. Embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for development.

What is something that people often misunderstand about your work/business?

Working in DEI, people sometimes think you must be part of a minority to support them. However, being an ally means offering support, seeing, hearing, and respecting others’ experiences, even if they are different from your own. It’s about standing in solidarity and using your privilege and platform to amplify marginalized voices.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your work/business?

The most rewarding aspect is seeing people being their true selves, feeling accepted and valued. It’s rewarding to know that my work contributes to creating spaces where diversity is celebrated, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What is something that you’re passionate about outside of your work/business?

I have a deep passion for art—painting, drawing, dancing, and music. My ideal day is spent at the beach, in front of the ocean, either alone or with amazing people, painting, relaxing, and enjoying good food. It’s a way for me to connect with my inner self and find inspiration in the beauty of the world around me.

What is the most valuable skill you have learned in your career/business?

The most valuable skill I’ve learned is listening. It’s crucial to truly hear and understand the needs and perspectives of others. Active listening allows me to connect with people on a deeper level and respond to their needs more effectively.

What is your philosophy in life?

Be yourself. Don’t try to be like others because you are incredibly amazing just as you are. Authenticity is the key to happiness and fulfillment. Embrace your unique qualities and strengths, and let them shine. Life is too short to live according to others’ expectations. When you are authentic, you can create a meaningful and impactful life that reflects your true essence.

How do you see yourself and your business/career evolving in the future?

I envision traveling the world, meeting different people, and experiencing various cultures and ways of thinking. I aim to continue helping children globally and making a positive impact wherever I go.

Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?

Yes, my favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This quote resonates deeply with me because it emphasizes the power of belief and vision. It reminds me that our dreams have the potential to shape our future and create a positive impact.

Thank you !
