Super Bowl Weekend is not just about the big game, but also an opportunity to engage in important discussions and bring attention to pressing issues. This year, the NFL Inspire Change, the Foresight Foundation and other Phoenix community partners hosted a Social Justice Town Hall event at Arizona State University during Super Bowl week.

The event aimed to bring together community leaders and experts to discuss strategies for creating social and economic justice, with a specific focus on the Black community. The discussion was moderated by former NFL player and NFL Inspire Change ambassador Anquan Boldin.

One of the keynote speakers at the event was Dr. Lance McCarthy, who serves as a Senior Economic Editor for the media platform DIZZYDIDDY+PLUS. He was asked to share his insights and solutions for the Black Gap, a term used to describe the economic disparities and inequalities experienced by Black Americans.

Dr. McCarthy is an experienced economist and advisor to the Foresight Foundation, an organization dedicated to Black empowerment and addressing systemic issues affecting the Black community. He and Antionette Farmer-Thompson, have authored a paper on the injustices faced by Black Americans and will be working with the NFL to develop strategies for economic empowerment.

The panel also included a diverse group of experts in the areas of sports, business, and social justice, including former NFL players, business leaders, and community activists. The discussions centered on ways to address the Black Gap, including investing in Black-owned businesses, providing access to capital and resources, and creating opportunities for education and skill-building.

The Social Justice Town Hall at Super Bowl weekend is just one example of the NFL’s commitment to using its platform to drive change and bring attention to important issues. Through initiatives like Inspire Change, the NFL is working to create real, lasting impact in communities and help drive progress towards a more just and equitable future.

Overall, the event was a powerful and inspiring reminder of the need for continued action and investment in social and economic justice, and a celebration of the progress being made towards a more equitable future for all.
